This ties into the last couple pretty closely, but I really would have liked more time on Crait and on the Jedi home world of Ahch-To.

More time on Crait and Ahch-To and less in the fleet. Again, this second issue could be resolved simply by not having the chase scene and have Poe go from demoted captain, tail between legs, to heroic Resistance leader during the (extended) battle on Crait.ģ. I don't necessarily think Haldo should have told him her plans (he was viewed as being too brash and irresponsible to the point where he was demoted, so I can understand a high level officer not divulging everything to someone like that) but I also found this, combined with the Canto Bight betrayal, to be just a little much. I was less fond of this happening a second time after Poe took command away from Haldo. Not only did we get a great scene with some ace-pilot maneuvering and a crazy tense moment with Rose's sister sacrificing herself to bring down the Dreadnought, we also got Leia telling Poe that this kind of antic costs unnecessary lives. I liked that the hotshot pilot, Poe Dameron, was taken down a peg after the suicide bombing run he helped orchestrate. Yes, if I had it my way I'd just ditch the entire chase scene and replace it with more time on Crait. Ultimately, I would have preferred that the Resistance was simply out of other options and had to go to Crait and that they were betrayed and had not choice but to put up a last stand there. I liked Canto Bight, but it would have been cool to have Finn and Rose go there for some other reason. The mission to Canto Bight is all built around saving the fleet and just feels kind of ridiculous in a lot of ways.

Why doesn't the First Order have some of its Star Destroyers warp out ahead of the Resistance fleet in order to surround and trap them?.

So why doesn't Leia order all the secondary ships in her fleet to jump to hyperspace and safety, leaving just the flagship in the First Order's sights?

The First Order has a tracker on just one ship, so they can only follow the fleet with that one ship.

This isn't a terrible premise, but it leads to some awkward plotting.

The First Order has managed to track the Resistance fleet even through hyperspace, meaning that Leia's forces can't warp to safety or the First Order will just follow. A great deal of the movie is devoted to a chase scene.
